This iced passion fruit black tea comes together in just 10 minutes with 4 main ingredients and is just as delicious as your order at the tea shop! Brewed black tea is combined with sweet-tart passion fruit nectar and sugar then served over ice. Add some boba if you like or a sprig of mint to make it extra refreshing!

Do you ever get a food/drink fixation and find yourself craving it all the time, only to realize you can easily make it at home and save so much money? Just me?! This iced passion fruit black tea is inspired by an iced tea I used to order at a little Vietnamese restaurant at least once a week (so was this vermicelli bowl!). It was so refreshing and had plenty of real passion fruit flavor (one of my favorite fruits!). I decided to come up with my own version that I could easily whip up at home to satisfy my craving on the days when I wasn’t out and about. It’s seriously SO EASY to make and so incredibly deilcious. I hope you enjoy it!

Note on Ingredients and Subs

I typically see passion fruit nectar in one of two places at the grocery store: on the aisle with the frozen fruits/smoothie blends and in bottles on the juice aisle. Either kind works! I really love the flavor pairing of black tea with the passion fruit but you can easily use your favorite green tea or white tea as long as they are unflavored. For a caffeine-free version, I’ve made this with hibiscus and mint tea and it’s phenomenal! If you love the hibiscus version of this iced tea, I bet you’ll enjoy my hibiscus plum iced tea!

Have leftover passion fruit nectar? You can freeze it in ice cube trays to use for future batches of tea or smoothies. Or, you can sub it in for the fresh lime juice in these vegan lime curd bars in order to make a killer batch of passion fruit curd bars (I’ve done this many times and it’s so incredibly delicious!).

How to Chill Your Tea Without Watering it Down

Once you steep the tea then combine it with the passion fruit nectar and sugar, the tea will still be fairly hot. If you add ice to it at this point, the ice will melt quickly and water down the tea. My favorite way to cool it down quickly is to put it in a heat-safe container, then park it in the freezer for a few minutes. After a few minutes it’s typically cool and ice can be added without it rapidly melting!

Description

This iced passion fruit black tea comes together in just 10 minutes with 4 main ingredients and is just as delicious as your order at the tea shop! Brewed black tea is combined with sweet-tart passion fruit nectar and sugar then served over ice. Add some boba if you like or a sprig of mint to make it extra refreshing!


Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 2 cups filtered water
  • 2 black tea bags, such as English Breakfast or Assam (I like Rishi Tea’s English breakfast!)
  • 4 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/2 cup passion fruit nectar
  • ice
  • fresh mint for garnish, optional

Instructions

Add the water to a stock pot. Set the pot over high heat and let the water come to a boil. Once the water begins to boil, remove the pot from the heat and add the tea bags. Steep the tea for 5 minutes, then remove the bags. Add the sugar to the tea and stir it in until it fully dissolves.

Add the passion fruit nectar to the sweetened black tea. At this point, you can chill the tea down in the fridge or the freezer if you like.

To serve, pour the passion fruit black tea over ice and garnish with a sprig of mint.

Notes

  • For a caffeine-free version, feel free to use rooibos, mint, or hibiscus tea in place of the black tea.
  • Use any sweetener that you like here and adjust the amount to your tastes. 
  • Leftover tea can be kept in the fridge. Enjoy it within a week for the best flavor. 
  • Feel free to add your favorite boba to the tea if you like! 
  • Since you need 1/2 cup of passion fruit nectar, I don’t recommend using individual passion fruits as you will need way too many of them and it will be more costly. If you happen to have a couple of passion fruit, feel free to use some of the pulp as garnish for your tea!
