This grapefruit mule mocktail is super refreshing and comes together with just 4 ingredients in 5 minutes! Freshly squeezed grapefruit and lime juices are the key to maximum fresh flavor in this easy mocktail that can be enjoyed by all ages.

I love grapefruit! It’s super refreshing with a great sweet and tangy flavor balance that is perfect for the transition from winter into spring. I’ve been enjoying it lately in these Moscow mule mocktails that are so simple to make and honestly perfect for any time of the day since they’re non-alcoholic. Make sure to snag some extra grapefruit when you try this refreshing little tipple because you’ll definitely want to make this super fresh grapefruit avocado salsa to scoop up with chips or spoon over burrito bowls. And, if you love grapefruit as much as I do, I have a feeling you’ll really dig this strawberry grapefruit mocktail, too — it’s a little sweeter than these grapefruit mule mocktails and definitely spring-coded!

Notes on Ingredients and Subs

My favorite grapefruit flavor-wise is a ruby red (or any red variety) which is pretty common in stores. Make sure to pick ones that feel heavy for their size because they will be juicier and more flavorful. You’ll be able to get enough juice from 1/2 of a standard grapefruit for one mocktail. For both the grapefruit and lime juices, I highly recommend freshly squeezed! A trick for ensuring that you pick a juicy lime is to choose one that is lighter green/yellow-green in color with smooth skin that has a gentle give when pushed. Ginger beer is traditional for a mule but you can also use a ginger flavored kombucha or a ginger soda instead. If you go that route, you might want to add a touch of simple syrup or agave syrup as well depending on how sweet you want your drink.

A Couple of FAQs

  • Do I need to use a copper mug? No, you don’t need a copper mug to enjoy your mule mocktail! I happen to have some from a photo shoot and love the way they reflect light in photos. Otherwise, I typically make these in a double rocks glass or tumbler.
  • Can I make a bigger batch for a party? Yes! You can batch this mocktail. Combine 1/2 cup lime juice and a large handful of mint in a pitcher. Muddle the mint with a wooden spoon then pour in 2 cups of grapefruit juice. Chill, then right before serving, stir in 32 ounces of chilled ginger beer. Pour into glasses filled with ice and garnish with more mint if you like.

Description

This grapefruit mule mocktail is super refreshing and comes together with just 4 ingredients in 5 minutes! Freshly squeezed grapefruit and lime juices are the key to maximum fresh flavor in this easy mocktail that can be enjoyed by all ages.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1/2 ounce (1 tablespoon) lime juice, freshly squeezed
  • 1 small sprig fresh mint, plus extra for garnish
  • 2 ounces (1/4 cup) grapefruit juice, freshly squeezed
  • 4 ounces (1/2 cup) ginger beer, chilled
  • ice

Instructions

Add the lime juice and mint to a copper mug, double rocks glass, or tumbler. Muddle the mint a few times until fragrant.

Add a large handful of ice, then pour over the grapefruit juice and chilled ginger beer. Stir to combine, then garnish with a grapefruit wedge and more mint if desired.

Notes

  • Freshly squeezed juice will yield the best flavor. Half of a grapefruit and 1 lime should yield enough juice for one drink.
  • Chilled ginger beer will yield a colder drink and keep the ice from melting as quickly.
  • If you prefer a sweeter drink, add a bit of simple syrup or agave syrup to taste.

This was so refreshing with that great bite from the ginger beer and the bitterness from the grapefruit. It’s definitely a drink I would make again.
